Some people say capitalism should be torn down. Others say things are fine as they are. Both answers stop the thinking right there. I try to stand outside that either/or, and ask instead: how do you actually move real work — business, community, society — within the world as it exists?
How does one see the systems of capitalism and the state? The question eventually casts its shadow over business design, over education, over how one lives. To answer "overthrow" or "comply" is to stop thinking. Yet without finding a place outside that binary, the real work of running a business and designing ventures cannot move. This article is an attempt to put that third way into language.
One's stance toward capitalism and the state is not merely a political position — it concerns the epistemological premises of the actor. "Overthrow" signals intent toward structural transformation, but history has repeatedly failed to answer when the design of a replacement order is demanded. "Compliance" masquerades as realism while in practice reproducing the system. To move beyond this binary, the first question is not "which is correct?" but rather "from what epistemic position does one intervene in the system?"
The "tear it down" side has passion — but what comes after is always vague. The "keep it as is" side has stability — but the unfair parts stay too. The path I choose is a third one: "This system is full of flaws, but it isn't disappearing anytime soon. So let's build structures within it that correct as many of those flaws as possible." Hold the ideal; choose the means realistically.
Overthrow (the revolutionary stance) carries the energy of change but bears a history of repeated failure in designing replacement systems. Compliance (the conservative stance) brings stability while preserving the system's distortions. What surfaces as the third way is — "accepting the flawed but unmovable system as a premise, and designing structures to correct its distortions within it": an idealistic-pragmatist stance. To hold the ideal as goal, while ruthlessly choosing means within the actual context.
The failure of revolutionary theory is not merely one of execution. The logic of action — that power vacuums are always filled by other power — and the structural asymmetry by which the costs of systemic transition fall disproportionately on the vulnerable: on both counts, radical transformation carries an intrinsic contradiction. Conversely, conservatism, while professing realism, performs an ideological function of reproducing the system's legitimacy. Idealistic pragmatism attempts to avoid both traps: taking the system's immovability as given, while embedding within it the seeds of non-linear change. This thinking resonates with Polanyi's "double movement" and Gramsci's "war of position."
It becomes clearer when I connect it to my own work as a Business Orchestrator. Operating within capitalism's rules, I try to gather up the human energy that the game leaves behind — someone's passion, a community's strength, overlooked talent — and convert it into work that serves society. It's not rebellion, and it's not obedience. It's moving into the gaps of the system and building small structures of order there.
Connected to the operating logic of the Business Orchestrator, the outline sharpens. Using the rules of the capitalist game, gathering up the "scattered human energy" that the game generates, and converting it into social work — this is neither resistance to the existing system nor obedience to it, but making order in the system's margins. Neither overthrow nor compliance, but permeation and structural design. The worldview of glocalization, the way of moving as a Business Orchestrator, and the stance toward capitalism — I take all three as growing from a single philosophical root.
The practice form of Business Orchestrator functions as an operational definition of this stance. Without negating the capitalist mode of exchange — commodification, price mechanism, profit motive — it uses these as mediating instruments while attempting to internalize the costs that capitalism externalizes: social fragmentation, regional decline, the underutilization of human capital. This differs from CSR-style "social contribution as added value." It is a more fundamental mode of intervention: parasitizing the system's logic in order to reorganize it. The connection to glocalization is inevitable — generating order specific to local context within the margins produced by global capital flows. This double movement is the concrete form of permeation and structural design.
